What is a TMA?
A Transportation Management Association (TMA), is a non profit organization designed to reduce the number of single occupant vehicle (SOV) trips within a district. TMA’s are partnerships between specific cities and organizations that serve the employees, residents and visitors of those communities. TMA’s work to help make sustainable transit options more cost effective, convenient, and efficient.
Who are these services available to?
TMAs partner with businesses, developers, institutions, and municipalities in a defined geographic area. These organizations are members of the TMA on behalf of their employees, tenants and residents. The Lower Mystic TMA services and programs are paid for by members and are FREE for individual users.
How does this help my community?
In 2008, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts signed the Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA) into law. The law aims to reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions to 85% below 1990 emissions by 2050. While emissions from the energy sector have decreased since 2005, transportation emissions have remained steady. Over 65% of Massachusetts’ emissions come from our cars, trucks, homes, and offices*. By working to get people out of cars and into sustainable transit, we can help reduce emissions, and combat climate change. Taking more cars off of the road has many local benefits as well. Reduced traffic, cleaner air, quieter streets, and a healthier population all add up to a better quality of life.
